Some Word for Mac keyboard shortcuts conflict with default macOS keyboard shortcuts. This topic flags such shortcuts with an asterisk (. ). To use these shortcuts, you may have to change your Mac keyboard settings to change the shortcut for the key. Change system preferences for keyboard shortcuts. From the Apple menu, select System Preferences. Increase font size of Messages: Command + Decrease font size of Messages: Command – Yes, that’s a + as in Plus sign, and – as in minus sign. Tap each repeatedly to go to the maximum size text, or the minimum size text, respectively. To increase the Safari web browsers readable text size, hit the Command key and + key (plus key, it’s located next to the delete key on a Mac keyboard), it will instantly make the font size larger. Or to make the font size on pages smaller, use the Command and the – (minus) key to make text smaller. But using keyboard shortcuts can help you do many things much faster on your Mac. You can control your system, work with documents, and navigate quicker and easier than you probably think. For a nice reference you can bookmark, here are 50 common keyboard shortcuts that all Mac users should know.

1. To open the rotor to verbosity settings, press VO-V.

   Verbosity settings include typing echo, punctuation, and text attributes, among others.

2. Press the Left Arrow or Right Arrow key until you hear “punctuation.” You also hear the current setting.
3. Press the Up Arrow or Down Arrow key until you hear the setting you want: All, Most, Some, or None.

All: Hear all special symbols and punctuation except for spaces. VoiceOver reads a sentence like this, “She turned and stopped comma then started walking again period”

Most: Hear all special symbols but not common punctuation, such as the comma and period.

Some: Hear keyboard symbols and many math symbols, such as + (plus) sign.

None: Hear text as you would normally read it, with pauses for commas and periods.

4. To close the rotor, press Escape.

1. When VoiceOver is on, open VoiceOver Utility by pressing VO-F8.
2. Click Verbosity in the category table, and then click Text.
3. Move the VoiceOver cursor to the Punctuation pop-up menu and press the Space bar.
4. Press the Up Arrow or Down Arrow key until you hear the setting you want (None, Some, Most, All), and then press the Space bar.

Remembering all the keyboard shortcuts there are in InDesign is almost impossible: the latest InDesign version (CC 2017) contains 407 shortcuts in total!

In order to help myself remember the most common ones, I decided to make a list of those that I use daily and make a single A4 printable cheat sheet, so I can always have them ready on my desk when I don’t remember them. This will help me memorize a few more shortcuts and be even more productive.

Create your own InDesign shortcuts

You can edit or add new InDesign keyboard shortcuts to make the use of some commands quicker.
Close all the documents, if any is open.
Click on Edit and then Keyboard Shortcuts....

This action opens a Window panel. To create your new shortcut you need to:
Select or create a new shortcut set

The Default and QuarkXPress shortcut sets can’t be edited. So if you select one of the two sets you’ll create a new set based on it.

Select the product area containing the command you want to create the shortcut for.

Select the command that you want to define (or redefine).

Click on the New Shortcut box, and press the keys for your new keyboard shortcut.

Do not assign single-key shortcuts to menu commands, because they interfere with the typing of text.

If the key sequence is currently being used for another command, InDesign displays that command under Current Shortcut.

Select when you want the keyboard shortcut to function by changing Context.

You can assign multiple commands to each shortcut, the context ensures that the shortcut works as you intended. For example, you can use Cmd+G to group objects when you select more objects (Object Context) or Cmd+G to merge cells in a table when you select more cells (Table Context). If you select Default Context, the shortcut will work regardless of the state of the document.

Click OK to save and close the dialog box, or click Save to keep the dialog box open while you enter more shortcuts.
