I haven't seen the new Texas license, but my guess is it's a PDF417 barcode and contains all the information that's on the front of your drivers license. Name, address, birth date, drivers license number etc. Most states have had them for years now. Texas has always had just a linear barcode that contained the drivers license number.
I am given a task to develop a small library which needs to be able to read PDF417 barcode located on the back of the Driver's License card and parse the data out to our custom object. However I need to know what data types are these Data types denoting? 4/ANS, 10/ANS, 5/ANS, etc.

I am able to scan the DL PDF417 barcodes and I see that driverLicense object is set within Barcode object. However for some states (Eg. FL, NC) the driverLicense object is NULL. When I checked the valueFormat in Barcode object it is set to 12 (Barcode.DRIVERLICENSE) for working scenario and set to 7 (Barcode.TEXT) for non-working scenario.

This is a decimal value between 00 and 99 that specifies the version level of the PDF417 bar code format. Other name by which cardholder is known.

According to the Card Design Standard by AAMVA, the PDF417 two-dimensional bar code symbology is the minimum mandatory machine-readable technology that must be present on compliant driving license/identification documents. The barcode encodes key information about the cardholder, including name, date of birth, sex, eye color, height, and many others.

There are two ways to extract data from a driver license for a machine:

Using OCR technology to recognize the characters printed on an ID
Use barcode recognition technology to decode the PDF417 symbology and then parse it into human-readable formats

Licensing Policy highlights:
